Byron Bay / Gold Coast Freediving Courses
We offer the most comprehensive freediving course in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast. Taught over two and half days, instead of the usual two, we’ve maximised the pass rate with a preparatory theory/ practical session before the weekend starts. We believe this is essential to mastering somewhat complex physiological challenges, and is a critical part of our dedication to helping you succeed in adapting to the new skills of freediving.
Our Byron Bay freediving course is run by Australia’s only AIDA International qualified, instructor trainer. Byron Bay is where The Underwater Academy very first started, so our knowledge of the underwater world here is second to none.
Using a combination of local pools, waterways and boat services, we conduct, under permit, our freediving courses in the beautiful waters of the Byron Bay Marine Park.
If you’re here on holiday, and want to try dipping your toe in the water, our one day* course might be for you. If you’re a little more adventurous, and want to put your mind and body to the test, while at the same time swimming with turtles, manta’s and tropical fish, perhaps try the more challenging 2.5 day comprehensive course.

These are our Byron Bay and Gold Coast based introductory Freediving Courses and Spearfishing Courses- which focus on building the solid fundamentals of Freediving - There are no pre-requisites for either of these courses, except that you can swim with some confidence.
These are our deeper and more advanced courses, which require you to have worked your way through the fundamentals (AIDA 2)
